Durango West 2

Rural

Durango West 2 is about seven miles west of downtown on Highway 160, across the road from Durango West 1, in ponderosa, aspen, and oak. There is no homeowners association. Durango West Metropolitan District No. 2 is a local government, not a private association, and it funds the pipes and the roads.

What the district does

The district charges a monthly service fee, not dues. That fee covers water, sewer, wastewater treatment, roads, and open space, including about five miles of trails. It does not enforce covenants, settle neighbor disputes, hold mailbox keys, take dog complaints, mitigate fire on a private lot, or haul trash.

Water comes from four wells in Sheep Springs Gulch, supplemented by Lake Durango Water Authority when the wells drop. The authority's supply is tied to the La Plata River and Lake Nighthorse, and the amount changes year to year. Well water is disinfected and aerated. It can taste sulfury and run hard. Surface water can taste different when the lake turns over. Both are tested, and the district publishes a drinking water report each year.

Wastewater goes to a lagoon plant the district co-owns with Durango West 1. Trash is private. At least one hauler in the area also takes recycling. Cardboard, paper, and plastic can go to the Durango recycling center for a fee, and glass is free there.

The district phone is 970-259-3946. Mail goes to P.O. Box 1092, Durango, CO 81302. Payments go to a different box, P.O. Box 3191.

Other Durango West filings

Two other recorded filings sit in the same country west of town and are not part of this district. The manufactured and modular section is on streets such as Lazy Pine Drive. Pinetop includes Choke Cherry Circle. Water, sewer, and the roads described above do not automatically cover those filings.
