Animas Overlook is a well-used overlook for people to drive to (on Junction Creek Road) and enjoy a scenic view of the Animas Valley or picnic at the overlook’s picnic tables and established trailhead.
The Animas Overlook Trail is a difficult trail which begins/ends at the Animas Overlook and continues 3 miles to meet Log Chutes 1.

Getting there
Parking at Log Chutes/Junction Creek Upper Trailhead. Begin at Main Avenue and 9th Street, then go west on 9th Street, toward Camino Del Rio. Make a right onto Camino Del Rio (Highway 550/ N. Main Avenue) Keep following North Main Avenue/Camino Del Rio; turn left onto West. 25th Street. West 25th Street turns slightly right and becomes Junction Creek Road. At a three-way intersection, stay left on Junction Creek Road, and continue right, past the dirt parking spot for the Lower Colorado Trail. The road becomes dirt here. After 1 mile on this road you will see a second dirt parking spot for Log Chutes.
